Stock Market Today: Pause in Mideast Fighting Sends Oil Lower, Stock Futures Higher — Live Updates

Oil prices have slumped and U.S. stocks look set to stage a rebound after a pause in hostilities between the U.S. and Iran.

The Trump administration has put on hold plans to escalate its war against Iran so that diplomacy can proceed, and as worries emerge over the U.S.’s munitions stocks. No official ceasefire has been agreed.

Brent crude futures, which on Thursday closed above $100 a barrel, are back to about $87, though significant pressures to oil supplies remain: Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is nearly paralyzed, and threats by the Houthis now threaten a second key route for oil.

Contracts tied to the Nasdaq-100 are up about 1.5%. A raft of earnings, including for four of the Magnificent Seven big tech companies, is set to test investors’ faith in the AI boom this week.
