Asian stocks broadly rose Tuesday morning as hopes for a new U.S.-Iran ceasefire bolstered investor appetite for risky assets.
Mediators were working Monday to encourage the U.S. and Iran to agree to a new ceasefire. According to mediators, Qatar has floated the idea of a 10-day ceasefire and a halt to restrictions on shipping in the strait to cool tensions. The mediators added that it remained unclear whether either side was prepared to accept an end to hostilities after the preliminary peace deal they signed in mid-June collapsed earlier this month.
