Grayscale XRP ETF Reveals Selling $180M XRP In New SEC Filing
The Grayscale XRP Trust ETF revealed selling over $180 million worth of Ripple’s XRP, according to a latest regulatory filing. It also reported massive depreciation in net asset value due to XRP price downturn. Further, it registered over $34 million realized losses from XRP sale.
Grayscale XRP Sells Over $180M From XRP Trust ETF
Grayscale announced that it cashed out $180.78 million worth of XRP in the first six months of 2026, in a new SEC Form 10-Q filing. The filing indicates that the trust sold off 103.41 million XRP for the purpose of redeeming its investors’ assets. The redemptions had a major impact on the ETF’s XRP holdings.
According to the filing, the Grayscale GXRP ETF Trust had 122.23 million XRP in its possession at the end of 2025. As of June 30, 2026, the holdings have been reduced to 55.04 million XRP. Their market value of the holdings also crashed. Net assets decreased from $223.36 million at the end of December to $57.41 million at the end of June.
During the period, some new inflows were also received by Grayscale. The trust has created an additional 36.27 million XRPs. Those contributions were valued at $66.58 million. But the outflows were much larger than inflows. That lead to a dramatic decrease in the XRP holdings of the ETF.
The filing states that the XRP outflows were associated with the creation and redemption of the trust. Authorized participants are responsible for creating and redeeming shares. The amount of XRP sent will vary based on the number of redeemed and issued shares and the number of XRP in the trust per share. The filing also mentions that the reduction in XRP holdings of each share was largely caused by the periodic withdrawals of XRP to meet the sponsor’s fee.
Millions In Losses Recorded Due To Sale
During the first half of 2026, Grayscale had a realized loss of $34.16 million on sales of XRP used for redemption of shares. It also recorded an unrealized loss of $17.47 on its investment in XRP. The trust also had a realized loss of $39,000 on its sales of XRP to offset expenses.
There was also a sharp drop in the number of outstanding shares, as per the filing. The number of shares outstanding has decreased from 6.30 million at the end of 2025 to 2.84 million as of June 30, 2026. The trust sold 1.87 million shares and bought back 5.33 million shares, indicating on-going outflows.
Earlier, Grayscale CEO Peter Mintzberg sold a part of his stake in the GXRP ETF.
