What Happened in Markets Today

The Fed held rates steady, over the objections of three bank presidents that voted for a quarter-point rate hike. It was the first time since 2016 where three officials dissented in the same direction, reflecting growing pressure within the Fed to act on inflation. In a press conference, Chairman Kevin Warsh said that interest rates have already gone up in recent months because Treasury yields have risen. But some reporters pressed Warsh on what he was waiting for to begin raising rates.
